(After a year of complete homelessness this poet’s Awesome Reader Family recently contributed sufficient funds to purchase and outfit a van in which she may continue her work in less hardship)

forget
all those other moments
past
and potential
cold
cold
cold
no light
light
attracts predators
no sound
sound gets you unhidden
and back on the sidewalk
no book
no device
no tv
no stereo
no food
no digging in your bags
no
no
no
nothing
nothing
nothing
till frigid dawn
till every
single
frigid
dawn
when you had already
better be gone
down that sidewalk anyway
forget those moments
lurking always over your shoulder
somehow
somehow
forget them
come to this one
this moment
treasure it
know it for what it is
an anomaly
in this whole wide world
of hurt
warm
safe
fed
in silence
free
to write
to write
to write…
